John Pickering an Wilhelm von Humboldt, 27.04.1830

|57r| Sir,

Having this day received a letter from M.r Niederstetter[a], informing me of his departure from New York for Europe on the 1.st of May, I have availed myself of the short time, thus allowed me, to forward to you the following articles:

1. The Vocabulary of the Feejee Language, which I mentioned in a former letter; & which, I flatter myself, will be an important addition to your Polynesian library; it is, by far, the most extensive I have seen of that dialect. The Orthography, I fear, is not very exact; but it will answer your general purposes sufficiently well.

2. Two Cherokee newspapers, being the last I have received for you.

I wrote to you about the 29.th of March last, and on the 15.th of April instant – & sent you two packets of Cherokee newspapers & a book in the language of the Seneca Indians, one of the tribes composing the Confederacy of the Six Nations. I hope |57v| they will have arrived safe before this reaches you.

I hope soon to hear from you; and remain,
with the highest respect
your obedient
& faithful servant
Boston, United States,
Apr. 27, 1830.
